Victron Energy BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor

The core function of the Victron BMV-712 Smart battery monitor is to calculate the amp-hours consumed and the state of charge of a battery.

With its built-in Bluetooth, the Victron BMV 712 Smart is ready for the age of the "Internet of Things" (IoT).
Most other Victron Energy products also feature Bluetooth functionality.

Easy installation of the BMV-712 Smart

All electrical connections are made using the PCB connector on the current shunt. The shunt is connected to the battery monitor via a standard RJ12 telephone cable.

Included in the scope of delivery: RJ12 cable (10 m) and battery cable with fuse (2 m); no further components are required. Also included are a separate front cover for a square or round display, a safety ring for rear-panel mounting and screws for front-panel mounting.

Mid-point voltage monitoring

A damaged cell or a damaged battery can destroy an entire large, expensive battery bank. When batteries are connected in series, measuring the mid-point voltage can generate a timely warning. Please also refer to the BMV manual, section 5.2, for further information.

Victron Energy recommends the Battery Balancer (BMS012201000) to maximise the lifespan of series-connected lead-acid batteries.

Very low current draw from the battery

Current consumption: 0.7 Ah per month (1 mA) at 12 V and 0.6 Ah per month (0.8 mA) at 24 V

Lithium-ion batteries in particular have almost no remaining capacity left when discharged down to the low-voltage cut-off.

After low-voltage cut-off, the reserve capacity of a lithium-ion battery is approximately 1 Ah per 1000 Ah of battery capacity. The battery is damaged if this remaining reserve capacity is drawn from it. A residual current of, for example, 10 mA can damage a 200 Ah battery if the system is left in the discharged state for over 8 days.

Bistable alarm relay

Prevents increased current draw in the event of an alarm.
