The New Victron System Configurator
Victron System Planner: Build Your Individual System
Quickly and Easily.
Dutch manufacturer Victron Energy combines more than 50 years of experience with a modular system made up of a wide range of high-quality components.
Your advantage: exceptional flexibility. Victron systems can be expanded extensively and can be designed for grid-connected, backup-power or fully off-grid operation. The hardware is robust and the software ecosystem offers extensive monitoring and control.
The configurator makes selecting and combining the components much easier, for both large three-phase systems and single-phase systems.
If questions arise during planning, installation or commissioning, free technical guidance is available.
5 Steps to Your Victron System
-
Choose Your Inverter/Charger
Choose according to your needs: a MultiPlus-II for single- or multi-unit systems, Quattro-II with an additional AC input, EasySolar as an integrated solution with inverter/charger, GX device and solar charger, or Multi RS Solar with an integrated solar charge controller.
-
Choose Your Solar Charger and/or Solar Inverter
Victron MPPT solar charge controllers charge the battery directly from the solar array with very high efficiency. AC-coupled solar inverters, for example from Fronius or SMA, can feed the house AC system and can also be integrated into suitable Victron backup or off-grid designs. Both approaches can be combined for flexibility and resilience.
-
Choose Your Battery Storage
Victron systems are compatible with high-quality low-voltage battery storage, including widely used 48 V solutions. A practical sizing rule used for many systems is to choose enough battery capacity to support the inverter power and desired autonomy; for example, around 10 kWh of storage can be a sensible starting point for a 5 kW inverter/charger, depending on loads and battery limits.
-
Choose Your Accessories
Victron Energy offers a wide range of coordinated accessories, from GX control devices and energy meters to protection components, distribution equipment, communication interfaces and cables. Choose only the components required for your specific system. If you are unsure, get free technical advice.
-
Choose Your Solar Panels
For Victron MPPT solar chargers, panel voltage and current must be matched carefully to the controller’s voltage, current and power limits. Panels with suitable electrical characteristics can allow efficient string design. The comparisons in this configurator are based on the panel type specified in the German source; always verify the current panel data and MPPT limits for the exact products selected.

No Question Goes Unanswered
Should I choose a MultiPlus with an integrated GX device or use a separate GX device such as Cerbo GX?
At a comparable overall price, a separate Cerbo GX generally offers more interfaces, connection options and flexibility for future expansion. An integrated GX device can still be attractive where compact installation and fewer separate components are priorities.
How do I connect the different Victron devices to each other?
Use a GX device, usually the Cerbo GX, as the central monitoring and control unit. It also provides network access through LAN or Wi-Fi.
- VE.Bus (e.g. MultiPlus, Quattro): connect compatible devices with RJ45 VE.Bus cables according to the Victron system topology.
- VE.Can (e.g. selected MPPTs, Lynx or BMS devices): connect the CAN bus correctly and use termination at the ends of the bus where required.
- VE.Direct (e.g. selected SmartSolar chargers and battery monitors): connect each device to the GX device using a VE.Direct connection.
- Bluetooth / VE.Smart: useful for compatible devices and local configuration. In a GX-based system, a wired data connection is generally preferable for permanent system integration where supported.
Always follow the connection diagram and current manual for the exact devices used.
Should I connect my solar panels to an AC solar inverter or to an MPPT solar charge controller?
Both approaches have advantages.
AC solar inverter: Solar power is converted directly to AC and can supply household loads efficiently. Depending on where the inverter is connected, it may stop operating when the public grid fails.
MPPT solar charger: Solar power charges the DC battery directly. This avoids an intermediate AC conversion while charging and is particularly useful for off-grid and backup-oriented systems.
Combination: Many Victron systems combine AC-coupled solar with DC-coupled MPPT charging to balance direct consumption, battery charging and resilience.
How can I integrate a solar inverter into a Victron system, and what should I consider?
There are two common approaches:
1. AC inverter on the grid side of the MultiPlus: The solar inverter is connected to the normal household AC network. This is straightforward and avoids many phase and sizing restrictions, but the solar inverter normally shuts down when the public grid fails.
2. AC inverter on the AC output of the MultiPlus-II: In a correctly designed AC-coupled system, the Victron inverter/charger can form the local grid so a compatible solar inverter can continue operating during a grid outage. This design must follow Victron’s current AC-coupling, frequency-shifting, phase and sizing rules for the exact equipment.
The right topology depends on required backup capability, inverter sizes, phases and the existing electrical installation.
Why do I need to enter values in VEConfigure during commissioning, and how does it work?
VEConfigure defines important inverter/charger and battery-related operating parameters. Correct settings help ensure the system operates within the limits specified for the battery and installation.
Depending on the system and current Victron tools, configuration can be performed locally or remotely through supported Victron services. For multi-phase systems, additional system configuration and commissioning steps apply.
For a grid-parallel installation, select the grid code and settings required for the country, installation and current approved firmware. Do not copy an old grid-code setting without checking the current Victron documentation and local requirements.
If the system uses ESS (Energy Storage System), configure the current ESS assistant and operating strategy as required.
For Pylontech batteries, use Victron’s current battery compatibility documentation and settings for the exact battery model and firmware: Victron & Pylontech settings.
When do I need a Lynx Distributor or Lynx Power In?
The Lynx Distributor is a central DC distribution component for connecting batteries, inverter/chargers, solar chargers and other DC equipment. It provides four fused connection points and can be combined with additional Lynx modules for larger systems.
The Lynx Power In is a simpler DC connection and distribution point without the same integrated fuse monitoring arrangement. It can be useful where external protection is already provided.
Very small systems can sometimes be wired without Lynx components, provided the required fusing, cable sizing, busbars and protection are implemented correctly.
For larger or expandable installations, a structured Lynx-based DC distribution system can make the installation clearer and easier to expand.
