Cannot Connect the Growatt EV Charger to Wi-Fi
13.06.2025
Possible solutions:
Wi-Fi band:
- 2.4 GHz only: Make sure the router is providing a 2.4 GHz network. Many devices, including some Growatt EV Charger configurations, do not connect via 5 GHz.
- Channel selection: Choose a less congested 2.4 GHz channel where possible to reduce interference.
Wi-Fi settings:
- SSID and password: Carefully check the Wi-Fi network name and password, including upper/lower case and special characters.
- Security protocol: Make sure the Wi-Fi security setting is compatible with the charger, for example WPA2-PSK. Avoid obsolete protocols such as WEP.
Hardware and router:
- RS485 bus: Disconnect the RS485 bus from the Growatt EV Charger during Wi-Fi troubleshooting, as this connection is intended for other communication functions.
- Wi-Fi module: Check that the Wi-Fi module is installed correctly and seated securely. A defective module can occasionally cause connection problems.
- Router settings: Check that settings such as MAC filtering are not blocking the charger.
Interference:
- Electromagnetic interference: Keep the charger and router away from strong interference sources and avoid shielding by large metal surfaces where possible.
- Physical obstacles: Thick walls and other obstacles between charger and router can weaken the signal.
Software:
- Firmware: Check whether newer firmware is available for the Growatt EV Charger. Updates can resolve errors and improve Wi-Fi stability.
- App version: Make sure you are using the latest Growatt app version.
Additional tips:
- Wi-Fi signal strength: Check signal strength at the charger's installation location. A weak signal can cause unstable connections.
- Restart the router: Restart the router after changing Wi-Fi settings so the changes are applied cleanly.
- Temporary interference: Temporary Wi-Fi problems can interrupt the connection. Wait a few minutes and try again.
