PV outage

The inverter shuts down. It cannot create its own grid.

Emergency power

During a grid outage, the inverter can provide a limited portion of its rated power for a short time. Some devices may shut down and restart in this case, while others can continue operation without interruption in a matter of milliseconds. The storage is not recharged.

Backup power

The inverter can provide its full power (almost) uninterrupted for a longer, though limited, period on all phases during an outage. The storage can be recharged.

Island-capable

The inverter is designed to establish its own grid with 100% power throughout its entire lifespan. Island-capable devices can often be connected to the grid but can also operate entirely autonomously.
